Gossalba a Montuïri
(Sanctuary of Consolation, Puig de Sant Miquel, Talaiot of Son Fornés)
Montuïri is a village located 5 kilometers from Gossalba, 172 meters high and with 2850 inhabitants.
We’ll head towards Sant Joan to take the paved walk that leads to the Sanctuary of Consolació. The original temple, located on a hill of 172m, it dates from the 13th century, since there was a chapel documented in 1249 that became the first parochial temple of San Juan in 1298, until in the sixteenth century it was transferred to the center of the village. From this first construction, possibly part of the exterior walls remain, the portal that communicates to the courtyard and the belfry. It has undergone several restorations throughout the centuries. The two sundials, dating from 1986, were designed by Rafel Soler.
From here we’ll head for Puig de Sant Miquel. Before arriving there are a few meters that the track seems to enter the highway, but it never happens and soon we’ll start a short ascent of 300 meters. The Puig de Sant Miquel is a mountain of 259m, at the top of which is the oratorio of La Mare de Déu de la Bona Pau, built by the Order of the Temple. Montuïri celebrates the third Easter feast up there. A restaurant is currently by the side.
We shall pass through the town of Montuïri where we can visit the Son Fornés Archaeological Museum and then, towards Pina, we’ll find the impressive Talaiotic complex, before returning to Gossalba.
